Sylvester Tungi was born in Kaminibit village where he started to learn to carve when he was six years old. Renowned for his refined and intricate carving, Tungi is one of the leading master carvers in Papua New Guinea and his work can be found in Germany, France, Holland, Australia, the United States and Canada, including in the Daetz-Centrum Museum's Gallery of Contemporary Sculpture in Lichtenstein and the South Seas Gallery in New York.
