David Evans became interested in the American Southwest in 1962 and 1963 when he spent summers at a camp in the Four Corners Area; he purchased his first Zuni pottery owl as a souvenir. In 1991, David had a renewed interest in Pueblo pottery and decided he wanted to create the largest collection of Zuni owls under four inches tall. It didn’t take long before he decided to take off the size restriction. As the collection grew, he noticed that within the variety of owls, there was a unifying Zuni look and that some families pass on distinct shapes and designs. Collecting with Daniel Ma, the objectives for collection expanded to include one that represented the range of shapes and sizes of owls, as well as the distinct styles of families.
