Basically self taught, Roy James Hanuse became interested in his cultural heritage when he attended school in Alert Bay in the 1950s. He was inspired by illustrations of Mungo Martin's paintings and in 1971 he received some instruction from Doug Cranmer. Hanuse became interested in silkscreening in the early 1970s. His work has been exhibited and collected in a number of organizations in Canada, including Expo 67.
