Erma Homer Kalestewa learned pottery from her mother Quanita, and is known especially for her miniature owls. She has kept the distinct attributes of her mother and her grandmother’s owls. The passing on of distinct pottery styles is an important hallmark of Pueblo art. Families have used these distinct styles for generations. One example is the Bica-Kalestewa family from Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. (See related people.)
