Knowledge shared by institutions

Incorporated in 1983, the Louis Riel Métis Association of British Columbia became a provincial-wide organization that grew out of the Louis Riel Métis Society, a society representing Métis people in northeastern B.C. from 1970. Following the Northwest Resistance of 1885, many Métis people moved from the prairies to the Peace River region of B.C., an area with an established Métis population. Métis people are recognized in the Canadian Constitution as a distinct aboriginal group.
