Married to Alex Peters.

Born: c. 1880
Died: 1959

Mary Peters was the only person weaving Salish rugs when Oliver Wells realized Salish weaving had nearly died out and began encouraging some Salish women to start weaving again. Mary passed her skills to her daughters and granddaughters. She was married to Stan Peters, and she had a son Moses Louie (born 1911). Mary Peters is often referred to in writings on Salish weaving as "the last traditional Salish weaver". She became one of the founding members of the Salish Weavers Guild that operated in Sardis between 1971-1985. Her granddaughter Monica Williams of Skwah is also a well known weaver. Both Mary and Monica are mentioned in Paula Gustafsons's book "Salish Weaving".
