Julie Peters was the daughter of a Cheam woman and Jacob Krauss, a German geologist. Her mother died when she was very young. After the death of her father, a missionary brought her to Mount Currie and introduced her to Harry Peters, whom she later married at the age of 15. Her skill at basket making has continued in her family. Her daughter Mary Jane Joe, her granddaughters Mary Susan James and Anna Billy, and her great granddaughter Diane Billy are all basket makers. The designs which mark this family's work are the rose and butterfly.
