Light brown rectangular woven basket with a flat, fitted lid; lid is hinged at the back with two leather ties and has a single leather strip at the front that wraps around a white plastic button affixed near the top of the basket's front side. Two longer strips of leather are tied near the top of the front and back sides of the basket, creating handles that bridge the basket's lid. Patterned designs in red-brown, black and yellow-white are featured on the lid and all four sides.
This basket was attributed to Margaret Lester by the donors, however, two basket makers (Vera Edmonds and Judy Lester) who know Lester's work very well said it couldn't be her work, which is much finer. They said the basket was made by a beginner, because the rows aren't even. It may have been the work of one of Margaret Lester’s students, since Lester taught basketry at the Pemberton Museum, where the Foubergs worked.
