J.McRee Elrod lived in Seoul with his family from 1955-1960, where he established Korea’s first library school at Yonsei University, assisted by the Peabody Library School. His wife Norma taught at the Foreign School, and they both taught at Yonsei University. Their family included two children, Mark and Lona, the latter born there in 1956. A third child, Carla, was born later. Marks first year of school was at Ehwa Kindergarten there. J. McRee Elrod and Norma Elrod studied Korean at Yale University before going to Korea, and continued their language studies at a Methodist language school in Korea. He gave his lectures in Korean. Norma Elrod later wrote a book about their time in Korea.
